The Philippines won its right to self-rule on the 12th of June 1898, which was signified by the raising of the Philippine flag by the first President of the Philippine Republic, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo at the balcony of his residence in Kawit, Cavite.
Dr. Jose Rizal, whose life, works and writings inspired the revolutionaries to be steadfast in gaining freedoms and rights for their countrymen versus an abusive regime, was born on June 19, 1861.
The main feature of the twin events was the nomination of five gentlemen to the Knighthood ceremony led by Alfonso Taguiang, Knights of Rizal European Regional Supreme Commander. Eventually Knighted were Grinstead Councillor Danilo Favor, Michael Duque, Cris Favor, Mike Abelgas and Joseph Arceo, husband of ENFiD-UK Trustee, Petmyla Arceo, who was present also therein.
Consul Voltaire Mauricio of the Philippine Embassy in London was the Guest Speaker. Other embassy officials who joined the activities as fellow Knights of Rizal are Consul Neil Brillantes and Consul Rommel Tangonan.
Arthur Nieva, Area Commander of the KoR London congratulated the new members in the circle of the Knights of Rizal in London. There were also members who were elevated to one degree higher.
In his Facebook post, Ferdinand Esteban, who was elevated to a second degree Knight, said:
“Since being a Rizalian Knight
Means being a warrior to fight
Not only for the truth and the light
But also for the just and the right.”
Joining in the event are the Ladies for Rizal headed by Aurea Taguiang. ENFiD-UK Trustee, Maria Basford is the Assistant Secretary thereof.
The Knights of Rizal in London is registered and affiliated with the Order of the Knights of Rizal in the Philippines created under Republic Act No. 646.
