The Philippines won its right to self-rule on the 12th of June 1898, which was signified by the raising of the Philippine flag by the first President of the Philippine Republic, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo at the balcony of his residence in Kawit, Cavite.

Dr. Jose Rizal, whose life, works and writings inspired the revolutionaries to be steadfast in gaining freedoms and rights for their countrymen versus an abusive regime, was born on June 19, 1861.
